AIM Program E-mail

To facilitate interaction with instructors, other students, and program administrators, you must have e-mail and Internet access.

Although you may already have an e-mail account, AIM requires that students maintain a mailbox on our FirstClass system. Having everyone on the same system facilitates file transfers among students and instructors as well as limits misdirected messages. In addition, AIM uses FirstClass conferences (discussion groups) for each of our courses. Messages posted to these conferences do not forward. Please review the AIM Program E-mail Policy for guidelines on using your student e-mail account. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the AIM Program Coordinator at aim@uoregon.edu.

To access your FirstClass mailbox and send e-mail within the system, you will need to download and utilize the FirstClass client software and an Internet connection.

Downloading FirstClass

After downloading the software, please review the setup information. You must enter the correct server address, etc., for your connection to work. You must also log-in using your assigned user ID and password. Logging-in as a guest is not permitted.

Links for downloading the FirstClass Client:

Setup

Before installing the new version if you're using a Mac, delete the previous version from your Applications directory and remove the FirstClass icon from the dock.

Once you've installed the software, you'll see the following:

Click on the Advanced button and then on the Setup button to open the following screen. Use the image below as a guide for setting up FirstClass to interact with the UO Academic Extension mail server.

Setup Screen for FirstClass

The FirstClass Server is "continue.uoregon.edu". At the log-in screen, simply click "Advanced" and then "Setup" and enter "continue.uoregon.edu" without quote marks where the server name is requested.

You may choose to save your username at this point, but to ensure that your account is not used by another person, please do not save your password. (This also helps you remember your password if you need to log into the FirstClass System from a different location.) It is against the Academic Extension E-mail Policy to use automatic log-in.

Forgotten Password

If you have forgotten your password, please contact the Sr. Curriculum Coordinator or the FirstClass Administrator at admin@continue.uoregon.edu to set a new password.

Access via the Web

Although AIM students are required to have a computer on which they can run the client version of the FirstClass software, access to FirstClass e-mail also is available via the web at http://continue.uoregon.edu/login/.

iPhone App

There is a free iPhone app available for accessing FirstClass. Use "FirstClass" to search the apps directory.
